Signs & Restoration

What types of cedarwood signs do you offer?

We offer a wide range of custom design cedarwood signs including business signs, restaurant signs, park & recreational signs, retail signs, trail or home markers, and decorative pieces. We can create both painted and carved designs, and offer various sizes to suit your needs. We also restore existing cedarwood signs. Every sign is unique, custom designed and built to last. What materials do you use?

We use only the highest quality materials to ensure the longevity and beauty of our signs. Our primary material is premium cedarwood, chosen for its natural resistance to decay and insects.

For finishes, we use nothing but the absolute highest quality, longest lasting paint and stain available. These finishes not only enhance the natural beauty of the wood but also provide an extra layer of protection against weather, bacteria, and insects. Our selection of finishes helps maintain the sign's appearance and structural integrity over time, even in challenging outdoor conditions. Many of our restorations are from signs created using these same products 30 and even 40 years ago.

All hardware used in our signs, such as mounting brackets or decorative elements, is carefully chosen to complement the cedarwood and withstand outdoor exposure. This comprehensive approach to material selection ensures that our signs remain beautiful and functional for years to come.

What is the largest sign you can build?

Our design shop has the capability of creating signs up to 8 feet high and 16 feet wide. If you need something bigger - give us a call to discuss.

What is your service area?

Centered in the Madison, Wisconsin metropolitan area, we will travel within a 6-hour radius to deliver a final product or retrieve a sign scheduled for restoration.

How long does it typically take to create a custom sign?

The timeframe varies depending on the complexity of the design and our current workload. Generally, simple signs take 1-2 weeks, while more intricate designs may take 6 months or more. We'll provide you with a specific estimate when you place your order. Request an estimate.

Can you create signs for homes or events?

The majority of our clients are businesses; however, we love to work with non-profit and for-profit organizations and homeowners. Whether you need a business or storefront sign, wayfinding signs for an event, or branded decor pieces, we can help bring your vision to life.

Can you restore old or damaged cedarwood signs?

Yes, we specialize in restoring cedarwood signs. Our restoration process can address issues like fading, weathering, and even major damage, bringing new life to your cherished signs. Check out our restoration gallery here.

What makes cedar wood a good choice for signs?

Cedarwood is naturally resistant to decay and insects, making it ideal for outdoor use. It's also lightweight, has a pleasant aroma, and takes both paint and carving well, allowing for versatile design options. The cedar industry is also extremely self-sustaining and properly managed.

Do you offer design services, or should I come with my own design?

We offer both options. Our team can work with you to create a custom design, or we can bring your own design to life. If you have a concept but aren't sure about the details, we're happy to collaborate and refine your ideas.

How do I care for my cedarwood sign to ensure it lasts?

To maintain your sign, clean it gently with a soft brush and mild soap solution annually. Apply a fresh coat of exterior-grade sealant every 2-3 years. Keep it out of direct contact with soil and ensure proper drainage if mounted.

Are your signs suitable for outdoor use?

Absolutely. Our signs are crafted and finished specifically to withstand Northern Wisconsin’s outdoor conditions. However, all signage in extremely harsh environments may require more frequent maintenance.

What information do you need from me to start a custom sign project?

We'll need to know the desired size, text or design elements, color preferences, and intended use (indoor/outdoor). Photos of the installation location or inspirational images are also helpful. Request an estimate.

Do you offer delivery and installation?

Yes, we offer delivery and installation services for our clients throughout Wisconsin. Our team will deliver your custom cedarwood sign to your location and install it for you. However, please note that we do not prepare the site for the sign, focusing on delivering the highest quality product possible. We leave tasks such as electrical work, landscaping, or creating a foundation for the sign to the landscaping experts, who we are happy to coordinate with on the install process. These preparations should be completed before our arrival. If you need assistance with site preparation, we'd be happy to recommend local contractors who can help with these aspects of the project.

What is your pricing structure for custom signs?

Pricing depends on size, complexity of design, and finishing options. Small, simple signs start at $500, while large, intricately carved signs can range up to $10,000 or more. We provide detailed quotes before beginning any work. We request 50% down and 50% at the time of delivery. We accept all credit cards as well as Zelle, Venmo, Cashapp and Paypal using a credit card as a guest. Request an estimate.

Do you offer any warranties or guarantees on your work?

We stand behind our craftsmanship. All our signs come with a 5-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and care.
